The World of Love

Yoon Ga-eun’s film begins as a slice-of-life portrayal of youth and school life, but it gradually takes on darker undertones when Jooin, a 17-year-old schoolgirl, confesses a confusing event from her past. Her confession sheds light on the hidden secrets of the entire small community, including the school, her family, and the neighborhood.

The film’s Korean title, ‘The Owner of the World’, more fully expresses the nuances of the film. In the end, it is the resilient Jooin who beautifully claims ownership of her own fate amid the confusion of adolescence.
