The Fin
Park Syeyoung, South Korea
In an alternative dystopian reality, an ecological disaster has unified the two Koreas into a dark, dictatorial state. Sujin works for an organisation tasked with protecting the state from mutated outcasts known as Omegas. These humanlike creatures, marked by mutated feet and tail-like fins, are used as forced labour and segregated behind a wall. Another young woman, Mia, has escaped the segregated territory and now lives in hiding at a strange fishing bar.
The Fin can be read both as a cyberpunk warning about the consequences of climate change and as an allegory about the political situation on the Korean peninsula.
