Principal Examination
Sako Dai, Japan
中山教頭の人生テスト, 2025, 125 min, K7
Vice principal Nakayama is busy resolving an array of issues at school, from student fights and staffroom politics to broken lights. When a teacher suddenly fails to show up, Nakayama must return to the front of the classroom after 20 years in administration. Through his return to teaching, he learns what it truly means to be an educator. Shibukawa Kiyoshi shines as the clumsy yet sincere and sympathetic Nakayama. Sako Dai creates a lively depiction of school life in Japan that is by turns humorous and serious.
