Amoeba

Rebellious teenage girl Choo enrolls in an authoritarian elite school, where she befriends three other girls who also defy the school’s strict rules. Together they decide to form their own gang as a protest against discipline and competition. What begins as small rule-breaking acts captured on a video camera grows into open defiance as friendship, class divisions, and the shadows of Singapore’s past begin to shape their identities.

Siyou Tan’s debut feature examines youthful rebellion, a rule-bound society, and the need to belong with both roughness and tenderness, bringing a delightful sense of girl power to the screen.
