Additional screenings of Helsinki Cine Aasia’s Chinese films

Two important mainland Chinese films of the year 2018 were seen at this year’s Helsinki Cine Aasia festival: An Elephant Sitting Still and Long Day’s Journey Into Night. Additional screenings of both films have just been announced for April.

Bi Gan, who charmed arthouse audiences with Kaili Blues and its long take, is there again, this time delivering a 59-minute single take in 3D. Bi Gan is a master of films which are more about an internal journey than about a logical story. Long Day’s Journey Into Night will be screened at Kino Regina in Oodi on Monday 8th April at 7pm. Tickets are available on Kino Regina website and Kino Regina’s ticket booth.

A story about an elephant sitting still and ignoring the world works as a strong metaphor for Hu Bo’s depiction of life, society and the fate of an individual in contemporary China. An Elephant Sitting Still will be screened at Orion (Eerikinkatu 15) on Easter Saturday 20th April at 6pm. Duration: 230 minutes. Tickets will be available at Orion’s website and Orion’s ticket booth.

Both films are subtitled in English.
