Viewpoint: The Future of Anime
To celebrate its anniversary, Helsinki Cine Aasia organises panel discussions at Korjaamo that are open to the public and bring new perspectives into the films in the programme of the festival.
A couple of years ago Hayao Miyazaki officially retired and the reign of Studio Ghibli as the production company of the biggest box-office hits in Japan is over. As the new Miyazaki some have suggested Mamoru Hosoda, others Makoto Shinkai. With the screening of In This Corner of the Worldin, it is apt to ask, what the future holds for Japanese animations?
Discussion is lead by a researcher of Japanese cinema and anime, Helsinki Cine Aasia artistic director Eija Niskanen.
